Building Healthy Futures: Incorporating Community Input into a Data-Driven Method for Identifying Priorities

April 25, 2018

Building Healthy Futures (BHF) is a nonprofit that aims to improve the health of underserved children and youth through thoughtful collaboration and advocacy. The organization has bridged two critical institutions — healthcare and education — to maximize child well-being in the Omaha, Nebraska, community.

During the first half of 2017, BHF convened healthcare leaders using a data-driven process to identify the most pressing challenges that prevent children from accessing needed healthcare. Dubbed the “Child Health Advisory,” this group — including representatives from underserved regions and local health systems, public health, and higher education leaders — met in a series of half-day sessions to develop a locally driven framework for analyzing data to identify health priorities for the community’s children.

This webcast will demonstrate how a collaborative, community-based method for using CHNA data can identify health priorities and promote objective, effective decision-making. Two people who were closely involved in the process will share their perceptions, one as a leader and the other as a participant, and reflect on the lessons they learned.
