The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published the final rule in the Federal Register about the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (OAS CAHPS) dated November 13, 2017.
In the document, CMS confirms the delay of the OAS CAHPS mandatory implementation. Calendar year 2018 will be a voluntary reporting period for the survey. Public reporting is scheduled to begin January 2018, as previously announced, for the July 2016-June 2017 rolling performance year.
CMS continues to support the OAS CAHPS survey as an important area of care that is not currently measured in the CAHPS programs. The Federal Register notes, “We plan to conduct analyses of the national implementation data to undertake any necessary modifications to the survey tool and/or CMS systems.”
In November 2017, PRC will participate in an OAS CAHPS vendor training to learn more about the program. Following the training, Jan Gnida, CPXP, will be presenting OAS CAHPS Updates for 2018 via webcast on November 29th, 2017. Please click below to add the webcast to your calendar.
