Few things can draw the oxygen out of a department (or unit) like a climate that permits negativity through gossip, bullying and/or rudeness. These environments create factions, cliques, and hostility that jeopardize our ability to provide the best experiences to our patients, quality outcomes, and retaining top employees. Likely, everyone reading this can relate to a time they felt singled out or impacted by a negative culture. Unfortunately, negativity can be contagious and unchecked can destroy teams.
